Fuel Distribution Stopped In Easter Nepal

The distribution of fuel in the eastern region of the country has come to a grinding halt on Wednesday due to the indefinite strike called by petrol pump workers.

Some 400 petrol pumps based in Mechi, Koshi and Sagarmatha zones of the region have remained closed as 1,200 workers staged agitation saying their demands were overlooked by the petrol pump operators.

The agitating workers have forwarded a 17-point demand that includes additional payment for working more than eight-hours a day, granting permanent status to those workers who have worked for 240 days, ensuring employment guarantee while transferring ownership of petrol pumps, among others.

The agitators have also warned that they would not budge an inch if their concerns continue to be disregarded.
